What you should know about sifxinst.exe Self-Installing File

sifxinst.exe is not a Windows system file and is known to frequently cause computer problems. Sifxinst.exe is found in a subdirectory of "C:\Program Files". Frequently occurring are file sizes such as 569,344 bytes (50% of all these files) or, as the case may be, 729,088 bytes.
The program appears as a window on the desktop. Windows starts the process each time that the computer boots up (Registry: MACHINE\User Shell Folders). The file was developed by a so-called third party provider - and not by Microsoft. sifxinst.exe appears to be a file that was compressed by an EXE-Packer. This technique is often used by trojans to keep the file size small and also hamper debugging efforts. However, this in itself is not sufficient reason to presume malicious intent, since even well-intentioned, professional software producers take advantage of compressed files. For this reason, 22% of all experts consider this file to be a possible threat. The probability that it can cause harm is high.

If you see this file on your hard drive or in Windows Task Manager, please make sure that it is not a malicious variant. It's a fact that many trojans try to cloak their true identity by calling themselves sifxinst.exe. With the above information or by using tools like Security Task Manager you can determine if, in your case, the file is an undesirable variant.

What do other computer users say about sifxinst?

It will self install, And i think it to have Spyware and some sort of keylogger. Most spyware removal kits will not work, I use Spysweeper. But it keeps regenerating I have found files missing, And when i got back to the computer after 15 minutes, I got a notification that said " You have 19 programs running". i looked in the taskbar, And winamp had been opened 19 times.

Used by PC Updater. This program allows software to be installed on computers. It is designed to be used in a corporate network to assist the system administrator in updating software on all computers. From the date of the file, it came preloaded on my Gateway computer. "Since a PC Updater distribution file can be sent to any PC and over any network, companies can now expand their software distribution outside the corporate walls." I consider this program not needed and a potential security threat. (further information...)

I don't really know-I found it on my computer as I was going around, trying to fix steam. Looked a little weird ("self-install?" that can't be good)

Last but not least

If Windows not working quite right for you, or if startup is taking a long time, or sifxinst.exe is causing problems for you, a good Windows diagnostic tool may very well help.
